FAQ: Connecting multiple chargers over a string of cells

Question: Is it possible to use several single cell chargers, each one attached to each cell, to charge the cells of a (serial) battery pack without disconnecting the pack?

Answer: This solution is not recommended for several reasons:

A) Some chargers have a galvanic connection of the ground terminals. If connecting such chargers to batteries in a serial string, such chargers would make a short circuit connection of the battery pack.

B) Even if the chargers have a complete galvanic separation over the high-frequency transformers, the circuit design of the chargers is often not suitable to withstand the DC potential between the cells.

C) As previously explained, it is not recommenced to have chargers permanently connected to the battery pack.
