Lithium Titanate (LTO) Cells charge and discharge rates The key advantage of the lithium-titanium based technology is the high speed charge and discharge. Typical charge and discharge rates are defined up to 5C (in comparison with 0.5C for LFP). The peak discharge rates are up to 10C continuous. The chemical structure of the Li-Ti compounds (e.g. Li2TiO3, Li4O4Ti, Li4Ti5O12) allows for a 3D shape of the anode (positive pole) surface. As a result there is a high efficiency of the charge and discharge cycle. The high efficiency reduces the thermal overheat and thus the cells can be charged and discharged at high speeds.
