![]()
New Lithium Yttrium Sulfur LiYS batteries ThunderSky is developing a new type of lithium-yttrium batteries. The new models are based on the latest lithium – yttrium – sulfur chemistry. The lithium sulfur battery (Li-S battery) is a rechargeable galvanic cell with a very high energy density. Lithium Sulfur batteries may succeed lithium-ion cells because of their higher energy density and the low cost of sulfur. There is much interest in using them for electric vehicles. The new ThunderSky technology is using the yttrium to improve the Li-S technology into the unique LiYS chemistry. The nominal voltage of the cells is 2.0V, the cycle life at 70% DOD is > 1000 cycles, 500AH battery has a nominal weight of 6.5 kg. The new cells for sample and testing orders are expected to be available in late 2010 or early 2011. | |
