FAQ: Can the lithium technology be used at 85°C?

No. All types of generic lithium cells have operating limits around 60°C. However in general we strictly recommend keeping bellow 50°C.

The reason is that the electrodes of cells are coated on materials made from thin plastic foils that start melting above 65°C.  Additionally one of the solvents used in the electrolyte has a boiling point of 77°C.

When over-reaching this temperature the electrolyte starts gassing and the bubbles of the gas make the separation of the internal structure and the cell gets damaged.

To be safe, never go above 50°C.

Also for temperatures above 30°C and more, you need to reduce the charge and discharge currents to avoid additional internal heating of the cells from inside.
