What is the recommended balancing for the LTO cells?

Based on our tests, it seams that the LTO cells have a generally very good consistency that is much higher than that of the LFP cells. It means that even at higher C-rations (1C, 2C) the voltages of the cells are nearly identical. There is a lesser need to balance the cells during the charge process. (Provided the cells have been finely balanced at the beginning of the assembly of the battery pack).

This means that for some kind of applications (e.g. operation only at 60% of DOD, lower C ratings - bellow 2C discharge and 0.5C charge), the LTO cells may be operated without a need for special balancing of individual cells.  Of cause we strongly recommend monitoring each cell in the pack and adjusting the operation of the pack in case one or more cells would get out of the proper operational limits.

For a more sophisticated solution and for application using the full DOD cycle and/or high speed charge/discharge specifications, we suggest using the SBM for LTO cells or the BMS system.
