The progress of the LTO technology tests and availability Question: I keep following your web pages and blog for the LTO cells. However it seems there is not much news during the last months. Is there any problem? Answer: To answer directly, there is not any problem. However, the battery technology is a business that needs time, and a lot of time. Since the battery expected-life-time is many decades, it also takes many years to test and verify the specifications of the products, to be able to confirm that the technology is stable and mature. Take an example concerning the LiFePO4 technology. We started with the LFP technology as early as 2008. It took more that one year till we started to publish our test results for broader audience at our blog pages. All information was published as it is, with no special warranty. Only in 2010 we started reselling and promoting the products to larger customer base. So it took nearly 3 years to be sure enough to turn the LFP business from some experimental stage to a business stage. The same is valid for the new LTO technology. The technology needs more time to mature and to be readily available. Regarding the LTO technology, we have progressed with the testing of the LTO technology in recent several months. Now we are offering a partnership for the projects using the LTO technology. We are following the customer demands and offering first engineering samples to proceed with more tests and applications. We also give strong warning about some “asian producers” who misuse the “titanium” keyword and mark many products as “titanium battery”. Most of these offers are fake. For production projects and for mature applications, right now we will be happy to support our partners and customers with LiFePO4 cells. The LFP technology has a “long history” of usage and application and we can strongly recommend using it as a reliable type of products. | |
