What is VDA-size cell?

VDA stands for Verband der Automobilindustrie (German Association of the Automotive Industry). It is a German interest group of the German automobile industry.  This group has proposed standards for the size of the battery cell technology used in automotive industry.

The proposed dimensions are based on the 148 mm and 173mm length of the cells, the dimensions are suggested as follows: (length, height – without terminals, thickness)

  • 148 mm x 91 mm x 26.5 mm 
  • 148 mm x 125 mm x 26.5 mm
  • 173 mm x 85 mm x 21 mm
  • 173 mm x 115 mm x 32 mm
  • 173 mm x 115 mm x 45 mm
